Typographic Language

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

A brief from Bucks New University: A self-written brief. This project made up the mass of my final year graduation show as well. In this self-written work, I primarily focused on typographic language (psychology of type), and the effects it has on the brain.
Research has shown that: Mainly Typography is understood, based on psychological and visual factors. Typographic elements, and the understanding of its effects on the human brain, whether it be conscious orsubconscious thought-provoking. I did in-depth research into language origins (Sumerian-Cuneiforms, and Egyptian Hieroglyphs), and how Latin was formed. These fundamentals were the bulk of my research into language. The reality of how type influences us., for example, making a purchase, our experiences, and emotions, and how we make associations with certain things, and the attachments or loyalties we find ourselves having, to a certain brand, etc.
Design Approach:Helping people understand the visual factors regarding the typographic elements, as-well as the understanding, of what and how we perceive typography. The creation of visual aids, or visual experience. My expression of the typographical language uses CMYK, and Typographical-Principles. Words, and colour to explore ideas. Experimentation, by means of using various typefaces (font families) and sizes, etc.
  1. What are the connotations behind these?
  2. How is typography used in this regard, to get a point across to us?

Communication Strategies:
  • Advertising posters, and leaflets; the creation of these, for real-world environment, etc.
  • Creation of little stories using Typographic language.
  • Broadsheets and Typographic Language.
  • Stand up printed models.

A few snippets from a book designed called: The Illusion of Consciousness. This book/ concertina was just a general fact booster on the state of conscious thought surrounding Typographic Principles, and Language. The book aimed at providing an aid into how we can think of Typography and how Typography links with our brain synapses. The book/ concertina acted as a manual in a sense. I felt by doing this book, it forms to bring together all my research, and analysis into one. Various sources were used, to make up the book.
